Medical devices have many software components and, therefore, more software
dependencies, making them an attractive market potential for selling software
supply chain security products.

Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) generation and related solutions have become
almost synonymous with supply chain security after Executive Order (EO) 14028 in
the United States mandated software developers to generate SBOMs when selling
products to the government. And like the government, the private sector increasingly understands the importance of SBOMs for the security and reliability of supply chains.

Although the concept of SBOMs has been around for a number of years, actual
commercialization and an SBOM-related market is in its early stages. The
catalyst has primarily been efforts by the U.S. National Telecommunications and
Information Administration (NTIA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA), resulting in regulation aiming to drive software transparency and medical
device cybersecurity. Compliance requirements are a strong driver of market
development, and this is true in the medical SBOM field.

This report will explore the increasing role and demand for SBOMs in healthcare, and analyze potential market opportunities for this relatively nascent concept.
